About the Job:
MicroSave is seeking an Associate Director. S/he will assist mobile network operators (MNOs) in developing, implementing, and scaling up sustainable business models for mobile money for the mass market, with a focus on the poor and the excluded. The position is based in Lucknow or Delhi with extensive travel across India.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Evaluate the mobile money programmes in India and identifying the challenges and barriers to achieving scale and commercial viability;
- Develop value proposition for the various stakeholders across the value chain (from banks and MNOs to distributors, retailers, and consumers) to enhance the uptake of mobile money services;
- Identify synergies with other services and applications – such as government to people (G2P) payments, remittances, agriculture/health/energy and financial services – that could ride on the common mobile money channel to enhance distributor/retailer viability, while enhancing the value proposition for the consumers;
- Explore alternate channels and partnerships, beyond the standard airtime distribution channels, that might have an initial better fitment for delivery of mobile money services;
- Establish buy-in with the CEO/senior management at the top three leading MNOs/telecom companies in India, driving their mobile money initiatives;
- Develop and agree on framework(s) of collaboration between the MNOs and organization to enhance mobile money services in India, with a focus on the states of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar;
- Collaborate with the MNO sales and distribution, and mobile money teams in identified geographies to implement various initiatives/programmes to accelerate consumer adoption and assist scale mobile money services;
- Find synergies between mobile money and G2P payment programmes and developing solutions along with MNOs/bank/government organizations to implement them;
- Interact with the RBI, TRAI, Ministry of Telecommunication, Ministry of Finance etc. to explore possibilities of an MNO led pilot project for mobile money.
Qualifications:
- Master's in Management/Business Administration;
- More than 10 years of work experience;
- Extensive experience in rolling out mobile money programmes in the India or similarly large emerging markets;
- Sales and marketing experience building and managing telecom/MNO distribution channels in India, preferably working in Uttar Pradesh and/or Bihar;
- Expertise in payment systems and mobile money technologies and platforms;
- Good understanding of the financial inclusion initiatives in India and programmes related to electronic/direct benefit transfer and other G2P programmes;
- Deep relationships and personal credibility with the senior management at the top three leading MNOs/telecom companies in India;
- Ability to navigate regulatory institutions to drive meaningful dialogue and to push the agenda of mobile money for the poor and the excluded;
- Good communication (oral and written) skills, interpersonal skills, and report writing and presentation drafting skills;
- Ability to analyze and synthesize data/information and present it using appropriate frameworks;
- Fluent in English language.
