Grant Manager
Working alongside the Director of Fundraising in India and
in collaboration with other Amnesty International India (AII) Programmes and
Operations team, the Grant Manager will manage overall implementation of grant
development programmes to meet Amnesty International’s revenue goals: identify
and secure new sources of grant funding, coordinate fulfilment of conditions
relating to existing grants, and, promote best practice in grants fundraising
in the movement.
Position Summary:
The Grant Manager will develop new grant applications and
rewrite existing proposals for resubmission or submission to alternative funders/mechanisms
(Trusts, Foundations, High Net Worth, Institution, Government etc.) and will
persuasively communicate AII's mission and programs to potential funders. He or
she will also research and identify funding opportunities, and collaborate with
AII leadership to develop multi-disciplinary proposals to raise the revenue
goals to support AII’s research and program activities in India. The
Grant Manager will assemble and submit grant requests, establish and maintain
personal contact and relationships with foundation contacts, conduct prospect
research, and maintain and manage calendar of submissions, reporting and other
deadlines.
Responsibilities:
• Work with the Director of Fundraising to develop a
position paper for AII for Trust and Foundation fundraising.
• Achieve the Operational Plan target for income secured
from trusts and foundations to ensure AII has the income for its budgeted
activities.
• Identify and develop an extensive knowledge of global and
local funding opportunities.
• Maintain an overview of AII projects and activities in
order to match to funding opportunities.
• Work with staffs on project development, production of
proposals and budgets and where necessary convene and coordinate proposal
development project teams.
• Prepare and ensure approvals of all grant proposals and
solicitation letters to potential funders.
• Develop mutually beneficial relationships with prospective
funders through appropriate cultivation and stewardship in order to protect and
develop AII’s funding constituency.
• Maintain and enhance AII’s reputation and credibility with
grant giving bodies through the implementation of best practice in grants
management for a given portfolio of funders and projects.
• Develop and implement grant management systems and procedures.
• Ensure proper and appropriate co ordination and if
necessary training and support to teams and structures on project planning,
implementation, reporting and evaluation aspects, as well as financial
budgeting and monitoring.
• Assist in the development of tools and resources.
• Carry out own administrative tasks related to the post in
accordance with the agreed guidelines for self-servicing.
• Other tasks as assigned according to the grade and nature
of this post.
Skills and Experience
Required:
A post graduate degree in communications, English, Sociology
or any other streams of liberal Arts will be required. Or the equivalent
combination of education, training, and experience from which comparable skills
can be acquired is required. Preference will be given to candidates with a
background in grant writing and strengths in the following areas:
Fundraising:
• Experience of 3 years of developing large scale funding
proposals to a variety of trusts, foundations and institutional sources.
• Experience of developing and nurturing mutually beneficial
relationships with funders.
• Experience in identifying funding information sources and
carrying out in-depth research on funding opportunities.
• Ability to make strategic decisions in order to meet
fundraising targets.
• Experience of developing and implementing long-term
grant-fundraising strategy.
• Ability to develop strategic relationships with funders
and represent AII in a professional manner to the external funding world.
Project Planning and Development:
• Strong knowledge and experience in project planning,
implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
• Ability to provide coaching and mentoring on project
management.
• Ability to convene and coordinate project team.
Communication:
• Excellent written communication skills with a proven
ability to explain complex issues clearly for external audiences.
• Ability to exercise diplomacy and tact in dealing with and
building relationships with key stakeholders (both internal and external) at
all levels.
• Ability to build support for and represent the team within
the movement and liaise with people at all levels of the organization.
Planning and
Organizational skills:
• Experience of managing competing deadlines and
prioritising own workload in a busy environment.
• Proven capacity to plan ahead taking into account a number
of factors and using own initiative.
• Experience of judgement and strategic thinking:
• Experience of identifying and using information to make
sound judgements on projects, with overall responsibility for portfolio of
funders and projects.
• Ability to understand and exploit opportunities to pursue
specific goals, this includes being able to determine what information is
needed, what level of consultation and decision-making would be appropriate and
what impact specific decisions may have on related areas.
• Ability to think strategically, and achieve fundraising
targets and long-term aims of team.
• Ability to influence others when required and make
recommendations on alternative courses of action if appropriate.
Financial and
Budgeting Skills:
• Experience in analysing, compiling and editing budgetary
information for large projects.
• Experience in monitoring and overseeing large budgets and
taking strategic decisions on most cost-effective solutions, taking into
considerations funders’ requirements.
• Ability to provide advice on best value in the use of
resources and taking overall responsibility for own project budgets.
• Experience of developing and monitoring own and/or team
budget.
Training and Skill Sharing experience:
• Ability to develop innovative and creative ideas and use
own initiative to develop new tools to support fundraising work within the team
and to others.
Teamwork:
• A proven ability to work effectively within a team,
setting clear goals, coordinating work with colleagues and providing advice to
other members of the team when required.
• A proven ability to adopt a flexible approach to work and
provide pro-active cover within the team.
• A proven ability to negotiate solutions and resources
between programmes and project team members
IT Skills and Experience:
• Extensive experience and fluency in Microsoft Word, Excel,
Power Point and the internet essential.
• Knowledge of using fundraising databases.
