Vittana is a non-profit organization bringing student loans to the developing world through the power of person-to-person microfinance. It is headquartered in Seattle, WA. It partners with MFIs throughout the developing world to support and catalyze new student lending programs. By connecting to students, it enables MFI partners to raise the right kind of capital to work with more and more students.

About the Job:

Vittana is seeking a Regional Program Manager - South Asia. S/he will be responsible for selecting new partners, including financial due diligence, negotiating contracts, and managing product development from start to finish - market research, product definition, pilot, and scale. S/he will also be responsible for managing in-country skilled volunteers in this process.

Tasks and Responsibilities:


  •     Assist four existing MFI partners to launch and scale their student loan products;
  •     Identify 6 - 11 additional Indian financial institutions to partner with;
  •     Perform regular financial due diligence on each partner to identify potential debt investments;
  •     Identify additional markets in the region to expand into;
  •     Work with the staff at partner institutions to create and launch a student loan product;
  •     After launch, check in with each partner on a regular basis to identify strengths and weaknesses in each product and make recommendations on how to improve the product;
  •     Take organization’s best global practices and modify them for the market in which the partners operate;
  •     Connect with additional institutions in the space to maximize the chances of students securing employment after graduation.

Qualifications:
  •     BA with a minimum of 4 years professional experience;
  •     At least 6 months experience working in developing countries;
  •     Strong quantitative skills and demonstrated financial analysis ability;
  •     Strong attention to detail while maintaining a strategic perspective;
  •     Comfort and skill in creating and building relationships across multiple levels of an organization;
  •     Demonstrated independent judgment and professional maturity;
  •     Strong presentation skills in both presenting and preparing;
  •     Willingness to be based in India with frequent travel (30-40%);
  •     Experience in the microfinance industry desirable;
  •     Demonstrated experience conducting due diligence for significant capital investments desirable;
  •     Fluency in Hindi and/or other Indian languages.
