ACTED launched its mission in India at the beginning of 2005 in emergency response to the Tsunami. In 2011, ACTED maintained its disaster response capacity in order to be able to respond rapidly and effectively to disasters in India, with a strong focus on the state of West Bengal. With the objective of strengthening the resilience of communities affected annually by these disasters, disaster risk reduction (DRR) has become a core component of ACTED’s activities, with the implementation of standalone DRR projects, as well as an increased focus on mainstreaming DRR through all projects.

For the India mission, 2012 is another year of response and recovery and consolidation of our DRR experience and capacity, but also the exploration of niche areas where ACTED’s global expertise and local network allow us to make a contribution to the development of some of the most underdeveloped and marginalized communities in the country.
