MdM currently works in 44 countries across all continents where it focuses on 4 priority areas: caring for the health of migrants and displaced persons, promoting sexual and reproductive health, combating HIV and reducing the harm and risks associated with drug use, crises and conflicts.

MdM has been working in India since 2007 through the Indian NGO Jan Kala Sahitya Manch Sanstha (JKSMS) and from 2011 with Voluntary Health Association of India (VHAI); and MdM is opening a new program in Andhra Pradesh:

    Project with JKSMS in Jaipur, Rajahstan MdM France’s South West regional office (Toulouse) has supported JKSMS on a Maternal and Child Health Care programme in 11 slum communities in Jaipur City. This program was run from 2007 until December 2012.

    Project with VHAI in Kalahandi District , Orissa VHAI implements with the support of MdM, a Primary Health Care project in Kalahandi District, Orissa. It is a public-private partnership between MdM, VHAI and Government of Orissa. VHAI is a Federation of Several States Voluntary Health Associations, functioning with the primary objective of enhancing the health of the people of India by promoting community health, social justice and human rights related to the provision and distribution of health services in India.

    Andhra Pradesh Project This new Primary Health Care program targeting Internally Displaced People will start in June 13 together with the Indian NGO Society for Integrated Tribal and Rural Action (SITARA) as Implementing Partner. SITARA has a long-standing experience working with IDP and tribal populations and is truly committed to IDP issue. Main objective: to contribute improving the health status of IDP. Target area and beneficiaries: 2,100 Internally Displaced People (IDP) living in 17 villages. Main activities: mobile clinics twice a month in each village, health education sessions, training for volunteer health staff (ASHAs: Accredited Social Health Activists) and governmental staff (ANM: Auxiliary Nurse Midwives), sensitisation of authorities to IDP issues. This program benefits a 1-year funding from ECHO (300,000 euros), hopefully to be renewed for the 2 following years.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting directly to the General Coordinator, the Medical Coordinator will work closely with the Program Coordinator from the partner, SITARA. He/she will be in charge of the medical coordination for Andhra Pradesh Project.

More specifically:

1/ Program Management - S/he makes sure that the different components of the program are consistent and in link with population needs - S/he builds the baseline assessment, develops the analysis of the medical data and the follow-up of medical indicators - S/he monitors on a regular basis the different components of the program and sets up corrective measures in case of need - S/he participates to the development of the general strategy on MdM activities with the General coordinator and the team (needs assessment for the coming years) - S/he assures the respect of International and Indian protocols and guidelines in the program - S/he monitors and evaluates program data output

2/ Trainings and capacity building - S/he strengthens technical skills and builds capacity of our medical teams and governmental actors who will operate in the villages (trainings)

3/ Team management - S/he organizes regular meetings, briefings and debriefings with the medical team - S/he participates to the recruitment of the medical national staff - S/he supports the medical team.

4/ Reporting, communication and representation - S/he writes ECHO activities report (medical activities part) and other activities reports as needed - S/he participates to regular meetings with the others NGOs working in Khammam district (Action Aid, Save the Children, MSF, Terre des Hommes) - S/he coordinates with local health authorities - S/he is in contact with ECHO regarding the medical activities

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
    Starting: 01/06/2013
    Duration: 12 months
    Contract : EMPLOYEE (French contract)

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE NEEDED:

  •     Medical doctor
  •     Significant experience in medical coordination on Primary Health Care Programs
  •     Experience working in partnership with a national NGO an asset
  •     Previous experience in conducting medical trainings
  •     Project planning & strategy skills
  •     Data management skills
  •     Writing skills
  •     Patience and diplomacy
  •     Ability to remain calm in any circumstances
  •     Accept frequent trips (by plane, train and car)
  •     Ability to live in a rural area with restricted social life
  •     Strong commitment to the organisation and its values

Daily field travels to remote areas (car + 1 to 3 hours walk, early morning journeys)

Languages: Fluent English (oral and written) mandatory
