VSO is the world’s leading independent international development organisation that works through
volunteers to fight poverty in developing countries by delivering innovative programmes in 36 countries around the world.
It is an exciting time to join VSO India. VSO India plays a critical role in the development scenario as it works for the poorest and most marginalised sections of society whilst focusing on programming, volunteering and advocacy. We hold a unique space by mobilising skilled people to work in development projects alongside our partner organisations within India and around the world.
We currently work in 5 states with an ambition to roll out to ten by 2017. We work with the most marginalised in society, Dalits, Tribals, Disabled People, Muslim Communities and Women, on issues of Health, Education, Livelihoods and Disability. Gender and Governance are integrated into all of our programmes.
The role
We’ll look to you to lead our programme in India within VSO’s global Federation, implementing and maximising the impact of VSOs contribution to overcoming poverty and disadvantage. This will involve not only developing new relationships with strategic partners to shape VSOs goals in country, but also managing our people and volunteers and being accountable for financial and legal compliance. Importantly, you will be securing resources, raising the profile of VSO and volunteering within India and representing VSO to government and international agencies, donors and the corporate sector - championing our values and vision at all times.
You
As an experienced leader in the development sector, you will have managed programmes in challenging and changing environments and be able to use your excellent leadership, negotiation and relationship-building skills to create and implement VSO's strategy in India and work with the local board of trustees. Your experience of project and grant management will be key to success in planning, resourcing and implementing our development and volunteer recruitment programmes. Experience securing significant funding is essential alongside the knowledge of how volunteering contributes to development.
There will be substantial travel within the country and occasional travel within Asia and the UK. As well as a competitive salary, the package includes comprehensive health and pension benefits. You will be supported with accommodation and relocation costs if you are recruited from another country.
