About the Organization:
The Centre for Micro Finance (CMF) is a non-profit, non-partisan research centre housed within the
Institute for Financial Management and Research (IFMR) in Chennai. The mission is to improve the accessibility and quality of financial services for the poor through rigorous research, knowledge dissemination and evidence-based policy outreach.
Background:
CMF is working on an intervention to mobilize women groups to have a beneficial impact on maternal and neonatal outcomes. The intervention uses a 20 monthly meeting cycle and is designed to both identify challenges to mother and child health and design context specific solutions. The results have been very encouraging in Malawi, Nepal, Bangladesh, and India. This project seeks to understand if a scale-up of such an intervention is feasible for India using existing women groups and through a government backed program for rural health (focusing on women and children).

About the Job:
CMF is seeking Rural Health Delivery Feasibility Study Intern(s) with strong research analysis and data analysis skills for a period of 3 months starting beginning of July. The position will be based out of Lucknow or Chennai. Working from a remote location may be considered based on the profile.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

    Assist with determining the scope of public health programs in selected Indian states;
    Identify public health interventions that work for women and children;
    Understand the mechanism of service delivery used in these public health interventions;
    Co-author the feasibility study report to be submitted to principal investigators.

Qualifications:

    Experience working with statistical analysis packages (eg: SPSS, Stata, R) required;
    Previous experience in development research preferred;
    Fluency in English required;
    Fluency in Hindi preferred;
    Ability to work with minimal supervision.
