The Need
International Justice Mission (IJM) is seeking a Media Specialist to carry out the responsibilities below in
relation to the Google Interventions Project based out of the IJM Chennai office. The Media Relations Specialist is responsible for monitoring Media metrics and database as well as customizing IJM documents and publications for journalists.  Qualified candidates must have experience in communications or journalism.  The Media Relations Specialist will report directly to the Project Director.

Responsibilities

•     Work with the Director of Google to develop media relations policy;
•     Cultivate local and national media and public contacts for disseminating information;
•     Secure and effectively manage key relationships with influential media power actors;
•     Draft, document and customize stories about IJM's casework for various audiences;
•     Write and disseminate regular press releases, quarterly press briefings and editorials to the media;
•     Monitor news to create and maintain portfolio of articles related to IJM's work, bonded labour, child labour and relevant news;
•     Maintain an IJM media contact data base and regularly update IJM media metrics (article rating, broadcast hits, etc.) to determine shifts and advances in media opinion;
•     Write, develop and oversee content for media trainings and interactions with the media;
•     Maintain and distribute press kits and conduct a periodic review of the document;
•     Serve as spokesperson for IJM to journalists, editors and other media-related audiences;
•     Deliver presentations on IJM to a variety of audiences;
•     Facilitate opportunities for IJM speakers to share the cause of justice among media outlets and journalists;
•     Facilitate and maintain open lines of communication with Google partners to maximize information about projects being received;
•     Maintain confidentiality of privileged and sensitive information;
•     Travel for meetings, cases and conferences; and
•     Carry out additional assignments at the Director of Google's request.

Required Skills and Experience

•     Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in visual communications, journalism, or other related field;
•     At least two years' experience in visual communication, journalism, or media;
•     Experience in training and public speaking;
•     Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
•     Strong editorial eye and ability to convey IJM's message and image through written, visual and oral communication;
•     Ability to network and maintain relationships;
•     Knowledge of Adobe Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign);
•     Fluent in English and Tamil; Hindi, regional languages of the states of Bihar, Chhattisgarh/A.P. preferred; and
•     Knowledge of Microsoft Suite Software, Windows 2000, Windows XP and server client networks.

The Mission
